With a growing track record of U.S. and European university partnerships — including placements through the University of Washington Tacoma — this is an opportunity for experiential learning that’s deeply contextual and ethically sound.

Orientation Week

Students begin with an introduction to Gambian history, culture, safety guidelines, and day-to-day logistics. They’ll meet community leaders and professionals to set the stage for their experience.

Each student is matched with a host organization that aligns with their field of study. Placements are supervised and include regular mentorship to ensure learning outcomes are met.

Weekly sessions cover topics like entrepreneurship, digital rights, and international development. Students also attend workshops, networking events, and site visits to NGOs, startups, and public institutions.

Field trips to eco-tourism destinations, historical landmarks, and community-based projects allow students to witness The Gambia’s environmental, social, and cultural dimensions firsthand.

Students live in shared housing near Jokkolabs Banjul or at the YMCA hostel, with WiFi and workspaces provided. Daily transport and logistical support are included.
